I paint my nails religiously every single week. If nails were a class, I would have an A+. There is something about a fresh manicure that instantly makes everything better. Whether you do it yourself, or you go to a salon, you can automatically feel better when your nails are done.

On a recent road trip from New York back to Maine, I stopped at a rest station where I met an older lady who worked at McDonalds. She saw my "falling snow" nails and immediately gave me a compliment on them. She told me that she was pursuing a career as a nail technician, and that she was practicing different styles every night on her own nails. Unfortunately at the time, her nails were covered with gloves so I couldn't get a picture. However what she told me was worth a lot more than a picture. She said that painting nails was something that made her happy even though she had to work at McDonalds which was not her favorite thing to do. She was pursuing her dream on the side, and supporting her family the best way she could. Painted nails may seem like a silly thing, but for some it is a reminder of a dream, or something that brightens an otherwise boring day. Don't believe me? Go put a coat of firecracker red polish on your nails and see if it doesn't put a little more spring in your step.
